squad if you want your typical pvp 'very hardcore battlefield' simulator. arma if you want primarily PvE with a very wide mod/sandbox scene. I prefer Arma because it's fine and fun playing solo, without relying on others. And in general it offers more freedom in how you play, where you play and what you play.
