Answer: I've played both e4 and d4. e4 definately has more theory thanks to the sicilian. Semi-slav is nothing in comparison.

Answer: The reason is quite simple: d4 can control two central squares when e4 can only control one. Playing 1. d4, we are able to control both d4 with the queen and e5 with the pawn, while playing 1.
